Gain peace of mind with effective infertility evaluation and initiation of treatment with a skilled Chicago Gynecologist
Infertility is a women’s issue that has a more common topic of interest. For decades, science has sought solutions to this problem. The term infertility is used to describe a state in which pregnancy has not occurred after about one year of consistent attempts. In order to determine the cause of infertility, physicians may suggest diagnostic evaluation and history for each partner, as infertility may be linked to either.

The common causes of infertility in women may be linked to ovulation, hormones, tubal blockage or the reproductive organs. In men, infertility is typically linked to low sperm count or unhealthy sperm. Factors that play a role in fertility include age, general health, and lifestyle factors such as excessive exercise or obesity, among others. The most common cause is just unexplained infertility.
We want our patients to know that, with effective infertility evaluation and initiation of treatment in our Chicago practice, the chances of becoming pregnant may be significantly improved. We suggest that an infertility evaluation be performed in situations such as:
- Pregnancy has not occurred after 1 year of regular intercourse without birth control.
- Pregnancy has not occurred after 6 months of regular intercourse without birth control and age is over 35.
- Menstrual periods are not regular.
- There is a known fertility issue with either partner.
Evaluation for infertility is a process that spans a few menstrual cycles, giving us ample information to detect a potential cause. In many cases, infertility can be treated successfully even if there is no identifiable cause. When a cause can be found, we can base the treatment protocol on the specific needs of the reproductive system.
There are several ways in which infertility may be treated. Sometimes we will rely on a singular form of treatment, such as medication. There are some women in whom a combination of approaches is most advantageous to the desired outcome. Some options for treatment include lifestyle modifications such as exercising more or less, specific medication, surgery, or assisted reproductive technology.
Every person is different and will require treatment specific to needs. At Northwestern Women’s Health Associates, we have therapies designed to deal with blocked fallopian tubes, to balance hormones, to address conditions of the reproductive organs, and more.
