GLUCOSE TOLERANCE TEST DIET
Use the following meal plan listed below as a guide for your Glucose Tolerance Test.
For the 3 days before your Glucose Tolerance Test you must eat 3 meals and 2 snacks. Use the menus below as your guide on how much food to eat. If you don't have a food item as listed on the menu, eat a similar type of food. For example, substitute 2 slices of bread for 1 roll or 1 cup of rice for 1 cup for noodles.
It is OK to eat more food than what is listed, but never eat less food.
BREAKFAST:
1 cup cereal
2 slices toast or 1 bagel or english muffin
1 cup milk
1 cup juice
meat or egg if desired
LUNCH:
1 sandwich including:
2 slices bread
any kind of meat/chicken/fish or cheese
any type of margarine/mayonnaise/mustard
lettuce and tomato slices
1 cup milk
1 large piece of fruit
SNACK: 1 cup juice
3 cups popcorn or 10-15 potato chips or 5 crackers
DINNER:
1 cup rice or noodles or potato (cooked)
1 slice bread
any type of meat fish/poultry
1 cup vegetables
1 cup milk
1 large piece of fruit or 1 cup canned fruit
GUIDELINE FOR THE TEST:
1. Schedule test through office.
2. Follow diet 3 days prior to test date.
3. Nothing by mouth (except water)
after midnight the night before the test.
4. The test will be completed in 3 hours. Not until after the test will you be able to eat or drink anything other than water.
5. Please bring along a small snack such as juice or a piece of fruit to eat after the test is completed.
