Why treat fibroids

Uterine fibroids may not be an immediate health concern due to their non-cancerous nature, but a woman's quality of life can be altered drastically by the development of these fleshy growths. For instance, it is possible for a fibroid to grow so large that it places uncomfortable pressure on the bladder or bowel, leading to secondary problems such as urinary incontinence or constipation. Most often, fibroids produce menorrhagia or hypermenorrhagia, conditions of excessive menstrual bleeding and clotting. The menstrual concerns caused by fibroids can cause emotional distress, affecting a woman's quality of life and increasing the risk of anemia. They can also cause constant or intermittent pain or pain with intercourse.

When and how to treat fibroids

Many women have uterine fibroids and do not know it unless they are detected during a routine examination. There is typically no need to address the issue of fibroids unless secondary medical problems or symptoms develop because of these growths. In the treatment of fibroids, secondary medical conditions are what guide the process, along with your own feelings about potential treatment and about having children in the future. Open surgery is no longer the only choice in treating fibroids. Operative Laparoscopy or Robotic Assisted Laparoscopy can remove fibroids or the uterus through minimally invasive surgery with a quick recovery. . If uterine bleeding is severe or other factors suggest hysterectomy may be the ideal solution to uterine fibroids, we plan minimally invasive surgery using advanced instrumentation. In some instances, it is possible to "starve" growths by cutting off their blood supply in a precise embolization procedure.
